Scholar’s

I’m convinced a good number of menu’s are written on a whim; random ingredients pulled out of a hat that kind of sound good on paper but are never actually tested in the kitchen. The food at Scholar’s feels exactly that way, a few twist and turns strewn about, making it sound interesting at the very least. But in the end, the question of whether or not it tastes any good is the only thing that matters. Too bad for Scholar’s because it really doesn’t. Gary, the SBK and I headed to Scholar’s on a rainy Saturday afternoon and decided to each order the house burger and split the Apple Chutney Burger. The Fireplace

After a string of mediocre to poor burgers over the past month, I declared my expectations would be low from now on, secretly hoping that would make my burger experiences more enjoyable. Well it seemed to work, or the burger was just pretty good anyhow (more likely) on a trip to The Fireplace in Brookline. Not hearing much about the restaurant before I went, certainly hearing even less of the burger, I had the pleasure of having an unexpected moment of satisfaction upon the first bite. I pretty much know the verdict on a burger within the first bite or two, and was pleasantly surprised at how juicy and salty (in the good way) this burger was immediately.
